Do you remember receiving an email asking you to fill out an “RCI Comment Card” the last time you visited an RCI-affiliated resort like Plantation Resort? The ratings you give in these comment cards, in addition to other factors we’ll discuss here, greatly impacts the award designation RCI gives – Gold Crown, Silver Crown or Hospitality – to these resorts.
RCI’s website states: “The RCI Resort Recognition Program (RRP) honors affiliated resorts that consistently offer superior vacation experiences. These awards are given based on comment card scores from RCI subscribing members who have vacationed at these properties.” “RCI award designations recognize those resorts which demonstrate an ongoing commitment to quality and guest satisfaction and meet or exceed certain standards.”
RCI uses five categories in its comment cards to determine resort award designations: housekeeping, unit maintenance, resort maintenance, hospitality and check-in/checkout. In addition to comment cards, the RCI Resort Recognition Program also evaluates services, amenities and unit configuration to determine its award designation. For instance, Gold Crown resorts are required to provide certain guest services such as mid-week housekeeping. Also, one bedroom and larger units must have full kitchens.
Your trading power is influenced by RCI’s RRP. The better your home resort’s award designation, the more trading power you’ll have because there is more demand for resorts with higher ratings. An increase in demand will always have a positive impact on your trading power. You also may use these designations to determine the level of quality you may expect when exchanging into an RCI-affiliated resort.
Let’s discuss each award designation in detail:
RCI’s Gold Crown Award
You may recall from our Reservation Tip #2 article, we discussed that RCI views Plantation Resort as 4 different resorts. We’re proud to say that 2 of our 4 resort IDs – IDs 4220 and 6045 – have been awarded the RCI Gold Crown Resort designation. This helps you as an owner because Plantation Resort Gold Crown status increases your trading power due to higher demand by those exchanging into these resorts through RCI! You also benefit from the superior quality of services when you vacation at your home Gold Crown resort. We are continually updating and improving to bring all other areas of the resort up to the Gold Crown standard as well.
What does it mean to have been awarded the RCI Gold Crown Resort designation? In RCI terms, it means that gold crown resorts have met or exceeded specific standards in the five categories discussed above and have received an outstanding evaluation of resort facilities, amenities and services.
Plantation Resort’s trading values are normally 6-8% higher than a comparable condo at other resorts in Myrtle Beach. That’s proof that in each of these resort IDs, our staff have consistently worked to create an unforgettable vacation experience for you, your family and those who have exchanged into Plantation Resort. When you do decide to vacation elsewhere, this higher trading power enables you to reserve your vacation at the most popular destinations within RCI!
RCI’s Silver Crown Award
Soon to join the Gold Crown ranks is resort ID 1797, which is currently awarded the RCI Silver Crown Resort designation. With all the recent upgrades to these condos, we’re looking forward to a Gold Crown designation soon for this resort code. In the meantime, the Silver Crown designation may make it slightly easier to find an available week within this resort code since demand is greater for the Gold Crown areas of the resort. Reserve into 1797 to see in person how close we really are to the RCI Gold Crown Resort award designation.
RCI’s Hospitality Award
Currently, Plantation Resort’s resort ID 2791 has earned the Hospitality Award designation. Resorts earning this award have “consistently high ratings in the check-in/checkout and hospitality categories.”
You may remember from previous articles that condos in this resort ID (2791) are privately owned (non-timeshare) units affiliated with RCI. Because these units are privately owned they have individual tastes in décor which may not be as consistent in maintaining quality standards. Incentives, however, are increasing for these owners to invest in their units and bring them up to date to the Plantation Resort standards that you’ve come to expect and appreciate. We hope this resort ID will rise to Gold Crown standards in the near future.
Why Don’t All Resorts Receive an Award?
Only 40% of resorts affiliated with RCI are awarded a designation with only 10% of all RCI resorts receiving Gold Crown. Some resorts may fall just short in some of the RCI categories where they must have high standards to hit the minimum requirements or they may not offer the services and amenities that RCI requires.
The RRP designations are awarded annually, so resorts must re-earn their award each year. Plantation Resort is proud to have earned award designations for all of our resort IDs – and we won’t stop reaching until all of Plantation Resort’s resort IDs have been awarded Gold Crown.
