“Should I or Shouldn’t I?”
This is the big question many travelers are asking themselves right now.
Of course, we would love to welcome all who venture to Plantation Resort and the Myrtle Beach area but we also understand those who may consider the safest option for them is to postpone travel to a later date.
Our foremost concerns are for the health and safety of all our guests and our employees. So, in order for you as a potential traveler, to make an informed decision about whether or not to vacation at Plantation Resort during this time, we’ve written this article to share some of what we’re doing to promote good health at Plantation Resort.
Extra Clean Condos
When we begin to clean our condos, all linens (including bedspreads) are removed from the condo and taken to our laundry facility where they are sanitized by the laundering process.
All rooms and surfaces are cleaned with a hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner (a green natural anti-microbial cleaner) recommended by experts to be an effective deterrent against pathogens. “Of all the natural cleaning products out there, hydrogen peroxide disinfectant may be the most effective,” says infectious disease expert Amesh A. Adalja, M.D., senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.
Housekeepers then sanitize all surfaces such as countertops, remotes, telephones, tables, bathroom fixtures, etc. with a proven, highly effective disinfectant that kills bacteria and pathogens including the SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
All dishes in the condos are run through the dishwasher on a high heat setting.
During the steam cleaning process, our new carpet steamer heats water to 210 degrees – more than hot enough to kill any lingering baddies found in your condo’s carpeting and tile.
At final inspection, after the condo is clean and set, we’ve doubled down on the disinfecting process. The housekeeping supervisor disinfects all surfaces once again, including light switches, doorknobs, etc so the condo is clean and ready for the next vacationer.
Awareness Around the Resort
We’ve provided hand sanitizer dispensers and stations around the Resort for our guests’ benefit.
We’ve reviewed how to avoid infection and stop spreading illness in our employee training.
Common areas like the front desk and the fitness center are disinfected with the same anti-microbial products on a regular basis including front desk counters, workout equipment, doorknobs, etc.
Impact to Entertainment and Restaurants at the Resort and the Myrtle Beach Area
Some businesses have decided to close temporarily. These include Pirates Voyage, Medieval Times, Alabama Theatre, Legends, the Skywheel, Ripley’s Aquarium, and others. Restaurants have gone to take-out only. Be sure to do your research online about your favorite vacation and eating venues before coming to Myrtle Beach so you won’t be disappointed.
At the Resort, to comply with government mandates and to do our part to help with social distancing, we’ve made the following changes:
- Shuttle trips to and from Duplin Winery and La Belle Amie Vineyard have been canceled until further notice. Shuttle times to the beach have been changed to run from 10 am until 3 pm every hour on the hour.
- Water aerobics and physical fitness classes are temporarily suspended.
While this may be concerning or perhaps frustrating to our guests, we are making these changes out of an abundance of caution. With that being said, Plantation Resort is open including the indoor and outdoor pools, the health and swim club, the lazy river complex and the complimentary beach shuttles with the schedule mentioned above. We are accepting new check-ins and we’re committed to providing an exceptional vacation experience to our guests.
A Few Tips from the Experts
One very important health tip – practice good hand hygiene 24/7. (Also, pretty please, stop touching your face.)
“As much as we would like to disinfect the entire environment of the world, the hands are the intermediary between the inanimate environment and us,” says William Schaffner, M.D., an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. “The important thing is to focus on proper hand hygiene. So, one of the best methods of prevention is to wash your hands thoroughly (for at least 20 seconds) and often.
